Leadership Capital Trek

Objective:

The purpose of the ServiceCorps international service trip to Guatemala will be to: (1)  better understand environmental justice through the lens of a local coffee co-op and support the positive social impact it has on the community; (2) learn more about the social problems in Guatemala through meetings with local community leaders; (3) foster a community of learning, leadership, and service among ServiceCorps Fellows.

Guatemala Service Trip Itinerary (April 1-9)

      Friday (3.31)

      Boston Fellows to take bus after work to NYC; stay with Fellows

      Saturday (4.1)

      9:00am - Arrive at Airport 

      1:09pm – 3:45pm - Flight

      Newark (EWR) – Dallas (DFW)

      4:35pm – 7:01pm - Layover/Connecting Flight

      Dallas (DFW) – Guatemala City (GUA)

      10pm - Settle at Volunteer Dormitory (Local team's office is: 6ta Avenida Norte, #16 y 16A, La Antigua, Guatemala)

      9am -11:30am - Orientation

      12pm - 1pm – Lunch

      1pm-6pm - Afternoon activity & free time

      6pm - 8pm - Family Dinner

      8pm - 11pm - Nightlife Antigua

      7am - Breakfast at volunteer house

      8am - Group departure for volunteer project

      12pm - Group lunch at site

      12:30pm - Transit back to volunteer house

      1:30pm - Arrive back at volunteer house

      3pm-6:30pm - Free time

      6:30pm - Dinner at volunteer house

      7:00am - Depart for Chichicastenango

      12:30pm - Arrive in Chichicastenango 

      1pm-2pm - Lunch

      2pm-5pm - Explore market area (famous on Thursdays/Sundays for crafts, textiles, and art); learn about Iglesia de Santo Tomas (former Mayan temple turned to church)

      5pm- Close (TBD)
