Motivation

Service has always been a part of my life and ServiceCorps seems like the perfect way to give back to the community in a larger way before starting my full time career. One can never strengthen their leadership skills enough and ServiceCorps offers an awesome leadership opportunity. GE will present me with intense rotations, so coming in with a year’s experience in a full time job with real responsibility would be advantageous. Offering my skills to a healthcare or energy nonprofit will be beneficial for them and a learning opportunity for me. I want to be able to explore the world and have new experiences while I’m young. ServiceCorps adds an extra dimension to my career through hands-on leadership experience by giving back in a new city! The concept of ServiceCorps placing several Fellows together in one location makes it even more attractive. Building community with others and going through similar experiences is a great way to learn about myself and how to work with new people.

Bio

Madeline Iffert studies Industrial Engineering and Spanish  at Penn State University. She is very active in the Women Engineering Program in which she serves as a mentor and role model for undergraduate women. Girl Scouting has been a part of her life since first grade and she continues giving back to this organization through her leadership and participation in the Campus Girl Scout Volunteer club on campus.

From her internships with two GE businesses, she learned a lot about industry and discovering the type of career she wants. After ServiceCorps, Madeline is eager and excited to begin her rotations as an Operations Management Leadership Program Associate with GE Power.

Spanish is one of Madeline's passions and she always seeks out practice with Spanish-speakers. During summer 2014, she had the privilege of studying in Seville, Spain. Her time abroad greatly improved her Spanish comprehension skills and sparked her interest to travel more in the future. Additionally, Madeline is conducting linguistic codeswitching research on Spanish-English bilinguals in order to complete an undergraduate thesis.

Madeline is a competitive ballroom dancer. Her favorite dances are Waltz and Tango but she enjoys Salsa, Rumba, and Cha cha socially as well. When she is at home in cozy Wayne, PA, she likes volunteering with her mom at Cradles to Crayons, an organization supporting underprivileged infants and children in the Philadelphia area.
