I hope to integrate the strengths of the nonprofit and the for profit career paths to serve as a more effective, service-oriented employee. The ServiceCorps mentality that values combining nonprofit and for-profit career paths is one that I strongly agree with - the two should complement each other, not exist as mutually exclusive life choices.
I do not have a traditional banking background. Most of my work has been through education, nonprofits, and volunteerism, and I have only taken a handful of finance-specific courses. Consequently, I value diverse skillsets of more than just technical banking capabilities. The passion I've had for both volunteer and nonprofit work in the past is a part of my identity that I hope to integrate - not sever - from my professional experience going forward. If I am lucky enough to join ServiceCorps, I will have the opportunity to capitalize on the intensity and technicality banking taught me in a nonprofit setting.
Olivia Foster will graduate from Colorado College in May 2017 with a B.A. in History-Political Science with a Concentration in Latin America and a minor in Spanish Language. At Colorado College, she loves working as a Writing Consultant and serving as Chair of Aprender Mediante Amistad, a mentoring program for ESL students in the Colorado Springs community. She will dearly miss their enthusiasm, humor, and curiosity upon graduation. Originally from Medfield, MA, Olivia will return to the East Coast as an Investment Banking Analyst for Industrials at Citi in New York, NY after her year with ServiceCorps. Olivia is deeply passionate about education and intercultural learning; she was thrilled to spend an engaging summer working for US-Brazil Connect as a Global Fellow teaching English in Maceió, Brazil. She considers her Portuguese a work in progress, and loves speaking Spanish - she's looking forward to spending time in Mexico and Cuba this year. She hopes to become fluent in a fourth language within the next decade, and travels whenever she can. On the weekends, Olivia frequents the hiking trails of Colorado Springs, reads some of the many books and articles accumulating on her desk, or escapes to the mountains with friends to ski. When she has a few minutes to spare, she cuddles her housemate's puppy, Wallace, until a chew toy steals his attention.
