4 C's: Community, Curriculum, Coaching, & Cyclicality

Leadership In Action.

ServiceCorps University

If you had just 4 weeks to transform someone, what would you do? This is the question we asked ourselves in designing the SCU.

Leadership and character development is a lifelong process accentuated by pivotal moments of accelerated growth.  Individuals are perhaps the most open to transformative change during the critical inflection point between college and career, between student and adult.  ServiceCorps capitalizes on this brief moment through our 4 C’s Model of Leadership Development and our 4-week, 3-part Service Year University.

Leadership Development Training & Institutes

At the heart of ServiceCorps is one of the most rigorous, longest, and most advanced leadership development programs available today.  Our curriculum is anchored by our ServiceCorps University and is guided by our 4 C's Leadership Development Model:

Community.  Our most valuable resource is our amazing Fellows.  As individuals, Fellows are special in their own right. As a cohort, they are virtually unstoppable.  Leveraging our communal living model, Fellows encourage, empower, and inspire one another.

Curriculum.  ServiceCorps has brought together the foremost leadership development experts to build what we think is the best leadership development program today. We accentuate our curriculum with our 4-week, 3-part Service Year University (see below).

Coaching.  A curriculum without a great coach is like a ship without a captain.  We spare no expense in providing the finest leadership development experts. We supplement their instruction with a formal mentorship program.

Cyclicality.  Through a constant cycle of action and reflection, ServiceCorps transforms Fellows and produces alumni who have a lifelong commitment to civic engagement.

The ServiceCorps University.

SYU: 1 (2 weeks, Start of Year 1).

Following graduation, Fellows assemble at Cornell University (prospective) to attend a 2-week boot camp.  Taught by the top leadership development experts and featuring renowned guest speakers, Fellows gain:

1) Practical job training
2) Leadership development
3) Social impact skills
4) A network for life

SYU: 2 (1 week, Between Year 1 & 2).

Following their year of non-profit service, Fellows return to Cornell University for one week of leadership development training.  This is an important time to reflect on where they've been for the past year and prepare for what lies ahead.  Just as importantly, as ServiceCorps expands into different cities, this week is a great way friends and compare stories about the year.

SYU: 3 (1 week, End of Year 2).

Throughout their two years, ServiceCorps Fellows undergo a continuous cycle of planning, action, reflection, and improvement.  These lessons and experiences culminate in the final week of SCU which takes place in Europe.  ServiceCorps uses history as a backdrop to explore topics such as responsibility, sacrifice, and courage.  ServiceCorps partners with leading educational institutions such as the USC Shoah Foundation, the Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics, and Facing History and Ourselves (prospective).  This week is a fitting capstone for the transformative two-year ServiceCorps Fellowship.

Take a look at how the Fellowship Timeline is set up and when each of the SCU sessions will take place.
