When asked about my college experience so far, I always joke that I spend all of my time doing schoolwork or rowing boats and, as much of a joke as it is, there is definitely some truth to that statement. I pride myself on working hard and seizing any opportunity that comes my way, whether it be taking on more projects in school or stepping into a leadership role within my team.
Through these experiences- I have learned to not only be a better leader but a better teammate, to persevere through difficult situations, and above all, to take responsibility for my ability to impact the lives of others.
However, I regret not taking a bigger role in giving back to the community that has given me so much. Being a service year fellow would allow me to use the lessons I have learned thus far to truly help those around me, while continuing my personal growth in a way that stepping directly into the corporate workforce would not typically allow, and I hope I am afforded that opportunity.
Nicole Riggio will graduate from SUNY Geneseo as a member of the Edgar Fellows Honors Program with a B.S. in Applied Physics and a minor in Mathematics in May 2016. Originally from Long Island, NY, she has interned with Citi’s Technology Infrastructure group in Dallas, TX and will return there to begin her professional career after completing her ServiceCorps Fellowship.
While at Geneseo, Nicole was a member of the Crew Team and has served as Captain, President, and Treasurer during her 4 years with the team. Nicole has experience with fundraising and community outreach as a member of the Crew Team; these pursuits helped develop her interest in service and desire to become a ServiceCorps Fellow. During her time at Geneseo, Nicole was also involved with the Physics & Astronomy Club and served on the Honors Program advisory committee. In her free time Nicole loves doing anything outdoors- she is a huge soccer fan and loves both rowing and hiking.
